Howard Hughes OBE – Managing Partner at Price Waterhouse accountants1985-1991; world managing partner of Price Waterhouse 1992-98; chairman of the trustees of the British Heart Foundation from 1999 to 2008


Professor Sir Geoffrey Elton – Historian. A pupil at Rydal school and later taught there
Professor Lewis Elton – Physicist and researcher into education, specialising in higher education
Sir Michael Thompson – Former Vice-Chancellor of Birmingham University. Fellow of the Institute of Physics, and was knighted in 1991.


Lady Justice Black (Dame Jill Black DBE) – High Court Judge (Family Division) 1999; Lady Justice of Appeal 2010 –

Alfred Bestall MBE – author and illustrator of the Rupert the Bear stories. Upon leaving Rydal School, he was awarded a scholarship at the Birmingham Central School (now college) of Art In 1914. He then attended the LCC Central School of Art but volunteered in 1915 to serve in the British Army.

Mervyn Davies, Baron Davies of Abersoch CBE – former banker and UK government minister.
Dianne Hayter, Baroness Hayter of Kentish Town – British politician and Labour member of the House of Lords. She was Chair of the Labour Party from 2007 to 2008.
Angela Knight – Conservative MP attended Penrhos College
Dafydd Wigley – Leader of Plaid Cymru from 1991 to 2000.


Andrew Fenby (rugby) – Welsh rugby union footballer who plays on the wing for the Scarlets
Patrick Leach (rugby) – Welsh rugby union football who plays centre for Newport Gwent Dragons
Tom Humphreys (sailing) – Olympic hopeful and student at Exeter University, was Young Sailor of the Year (Wales) in 2007 and 2008, 1st place in the European Cup in 2008, and 4th place in the Adult category at the World Championships. Attended Rydal Penrhos School 2002 – 2009.
Max Todd (sailing) – European championship winner
Bleddyn Williams (rugby) – Welsh rugby union captain. Capped 22 times for Wales and also captained the British Lions in 1950, attended Rydal School 1937 – 1941.
Wilf Wooller (cricket and rugby) – First class cricketer for Glamorgan CCC and Welsh international rugby union player, attended Rydal School 1928 – 1933.
